ROOF CLOSING AND CANVAS DAMAGE Empty ROOF CLOSING AND CANVAS DAMAGE

Post by jambosno9 Fri Oct 05, 2012 2:42 am

Hi

A few questions on roof damage to the canvas.

Do VW have an official guidelines about closing the roof and doing so in windy/rainy/bad weather?
Does anyone know if you damage the roof when closing is it covered under the Warranty?
Does anyone have any example pictures of damage caused to the canvas when closing the roof?

Thanks

ROOF CLOSING AND CANVAS DAMAGE Empty Roof Closing and Canvas problems

Post by Richard Hylden Fri Oct 26, 2012 2:11 am

Hi, we had a problem with our roof while in France when the wind got up to a stongish breeze, it was at night and we followed the instructions in the hand book. However, the canvas blew out and got caught in the hinges. The canvas got small tears were it was crimped and the roof had small dents either side.

When we got home we took the Cali to our Guildford VW Van Centre and it was repaired and a new canvas bellows fitted under warranty.
We were a little hesitant, although we had lowered the roof exactly as described in the hand book, it was of our doing. VW were great about it, and the Cali is now good as new again.

We will in the future no matter the time day or night get out and check the canvas at the back is collapsing as it should when lowering the roof.
